Several facts about GTA 6 when it comes out. First, a ton of players will play it, all digitally. There is no physical edition, whether on Xbox or PlayStation. Because of that, we know that all players at launch and beyond will be on console. The game is not available on PC.
For a variety of reasons, Rockstar has focused exclusively on consoles, even partnering with Sony to market through PlayStation 5. It’s easier to develop for console than for PC. Also, given how in-depth the game appears, it’s no surprise they left out PC. It took a long time to develop the game as is.
Eventually, though, most games make it to PC. The platform has kind of existed outside the traditional console wars, getting titles from Xbox and PlayStation. Not this time. However, it stands to reason that GTA 6 will be on PC someday, and according to one insider, sooner than you think.
GTA 6 could be on PC a lot sooner than people estimate
GTA 6 is not guaranteed to land on PC. However, that’s a huge chunk of the prospective player base, so it is highly likely. Rockstar Games has made no official announcement. However, it would be a surprise to many if the game never made it off of Xbox and PlayStation.
Wedbush Securities game insider Michael Pachter believes GTA 6 will come to PC within months of its console launch. Often, games go to console after PC if they aren’t on both at launch, but not this time. However, GTA 6 may not take long to bridge the gap.
“The game is not exclusive to PlayStation 5; it’s also coming out on the Xbox Series X|S, and in about 6 or 7 months it will come out on PC. Lots of people are going to have access to it, but the boom for Sony right now is that people have to have a console if they want to play it at launch,” Pachter said.
An initial report surfaced that the PC version was expected in Q1 of 2027, which doesn’t conflict with Pachter’s statement. Time will ultimately tell, but that’s now two distinct sources claiming as much.
However, there is one thing to consider. If Rockstar spent all this time prioritizing consoles, porting to PC won’t be the quickest or easiest. And with how detailed the game is and how long the console version took, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the PC version of GTA 6 also hit some snags. For now, additionally, a PC version isn’t a surefire thing.
