Walmart cancelled some pre-orders for Nintendo's Zelda-themed Switch 2 a day before they were due to arrive, Nintendo Life reported, just as the console reached stores this week. Customers at Target are also being told to wait until the middle of November.
Nintendo has said more stock is coming, but for now plenty of buyers are empty-handed.
Walmart Cancellations Arrive a Day Before Delivery
Affected Walmart customers received a message saying the item was now out of stock. They will not be charged, but they no longer have a system on the way.
Nintendo Life wrote that some customers who contacted Walmart customer service were told the retailer had "oversold" pre-orders. Walmart's website still lists the console as out of stock, though listings have appeared at higher prices.
Target and Walmart Push Dates Into November
Polygon has covered the Target delays, which Nintendo Life says are hitting users who pre-ordered there. Their orders are not expected until mid-November.
Nintendo Life added that Walmart has blamed a supply chain delay for stopping select stores from selling the hardware until next month. That is a separate problem from the cancellations, and it hits shoppers who never pre-ordered.
Restocks and Australian Stock
Nintendo Life says Nintendo has repeatedly said restocks of the Zelda-themed Switch 2 are on the way. The company has not been quoted with a date in the material Nintendo Life published.
Australian readers have one lead. Nintendo Life cited Vooks.net, which reported that the official Nintendo Store in Australia received additional Zelda Switch 2 stock this week.
Nintendo Life Asks Readers How They Fared
Nintendo Life has put the question to its readers in a poll, which had drawn 42 votes at last count. Options range from pre-ordering and receiving a console on release to order delays, cancellations and not buying one at all.
Another said they could never get one because the pre-order windows fall during their working hours, and they refuse to pay scalper prices.
Hori Accessories Head to Japan in November
Separately, Nintendo Life says Japanese accessory maker Hori has announced a range of Zelda-themed Switch 2 products for release in Japan in November. Pre-orders are open on the Hori Store and on sites such as Amazon.
- A slim hard pouch for 4,480 yen.
- A shoulder pouch for 4,980 yen.
- An all-in-one storage bag for 5,480 yen.
- A wireless HORIPAD Turbo controller for 8,980 yen.
- A game card case for 1,780 yen, holding up to six cards.
Nintendo's own 40th anniversary range covers the themed Switch 2, a Pro Controller and a carry case. It also includes Ocarina of Time amiibo and a playable Ocarina.
