WaterField’s SteamPack Packs Your Entire Steam Deck Setup For The Road

The Steam Deck is one of the easiest gaming PCs to throw into a bag and take almost anywhere. The problem starts when you want to use it like a desktop console. Suddenly there is a dock, controller, power brick, HDMI cable, and a collection of smaller accessories to keep track of. WaterField Designs thinks all of that deserves its own luggage. The company has introduced the SteamPack, a $179 carrying case designed to transport a complete Steam Deck setup rather than just the handheld. It is essentially the evolution of WaterField’s SwitchPack concept, built around the idea that gamers should not have to leave their docked setup at home simply because they are traveling.

The SteamPack measures 13.5 x 5.25 x 5.5 inches. Gamers can choose between black ballistic nylon with black leather, black ballistic nylon with chocolate leather, or brown waxed canvas with chocolate leather. The ballistic nylon version weighs 1.1 pounds, while the heavier waxed canvas model comes in at 1.5 pounds.

The Steam Deck gets its own plush-lined compartment, with an Ultrasuede liner facing the screen that also doubles as a screen cleaner. Two separate plush pockets hold Steam Controllers, while a padded compartment between the larger components provides room for the power brick and HDMI cable. The Steam Deck Dock gets a dedicated compartment underneath a magnetic full-grain leather flap. There is also a rear zippered mesh pocket for Steam Controller Pucks and microSD cards, which is exactly the sort of small storage space that becomes surprisingly valuable when you’re trying to assemble a gaming setup somewhere that isn’t home.

The SteamPack may be all soft and fluffy on the inside, but its outside is built for travel. The bottom and sides are reinforced with full-grain leather, while dual waterproof YKK zippers provide additional weather resistance. A stitched and riveted leather-wrapped handle handles traditional carry, and D-ring attachment points support an optional removable Sling Strap.

The case is available now at SFBags.com. At $179, the SteamPack certainly costs more than the typical Steam Deck carrying case. But it is solving a different problem. If your idea of portable gaming includes arriving at a hotel, plugging the Deck into the television, grabbing a controller, and picking up where you left off, having every piece of the setup in one organized bag could make the premium considerably easier to justify.
